Imprint and date from Incunabula short title catalogue
With the device of Guy Marchant on title page; another issue has the device of Jehan Petit (Konrad Haebler, Verlegermarken des Jean Petit, 1914, no. II; Philip Renouard, Les marques typographiques parisiennes des XVe et XVIe siecles, 1926, no. 882). This issue has a woodcut on a1 verso; in the other issue, is has apparently been masked, but appears in a blind impression and can be identified with the inked copies
The "Epistola Luciferi" has been Variously attributed to Nicolas Oresme, Pierre d'Ailly, and Heinrich von Langenstein (references in O. Clemen, "Bibliographica zur Reformationsgeschichte. VII. Der Teufelsbrief von 1351 in der Reformationszeit," Zentralblatt fur Bibliothekswesen 24 [1907], 594), and to Peter Ceffons, of Clairvaux (D. Trapp, "Peter Ceffons of Clairvaux," Recherches de theologie ancienne et medievale 24 [1957], 115-117)
Signatures: a⁸.
